Eugene W. Houchen, 1918-2003, Howell, Mich.
Eugene "Gene" Wesley Houchen, 85, of Howell, Mich., died
Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at his home in Woodland Village.
He was born March 8, 1918, in Houstonia, a son of Fred and Eula Wicker Houchen.
He was married to Bernie Phillips, who died in 1985.
Mr. Houchen was a graduate of Houstonia High School. He attended Sedalia
Business College, before joining the Army. He was a World War II veteran,
serving most of his time in India. Upon returning from the service, he went to
work for the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. at the Houstonia plant. He was
stationed at various Panhandle plants before retiring in Howell, after 40 years
as supervisor. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Howell.
Surviving are a daughter, Kim Smith, of Howell; a sister, Mary Anna Volheim,
of Fremont, Calif.; and two granddaughters.
A celebration of life service was held Dec. 13 at Borek Jennings Funeral
Home in Howell.
The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to the American
Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home at 312 S. Michigan Ave.,
Howell, MI 48843.
